Premier League: Chelsea raises its offer for Cucurella and hopes to reach an agreement with Brighton

MArc Cucurella will officially become a new Chelsea player in the next few hours. The English team is willing to make an outlay of €68 million to take over the Brighton side until June 2028.

Manchester City did not better their offer of 40 million pounds… and that’s where Tuchel’s Chelsea have sneaked in. With the departure of Marcos Alonso up in the air and Chilwell underperforming, Cucurella has been presented as a ‘market opportunity’ that Chelsea were not willing to miss.

The Spaniard has needed a single season to triple the value of his signing… (cost 18 million to Brighton) and go from a more than correct mid-table Brighton to an ambitious Chelsea that aspires to everything with its new owners.

The ‘new era’ of Chelsea starts strong. If first it was Sterling and then Koulibaly, now the turn is for Marc Cucurella. If the predictions come true, Chelsea will have spent more than 140 million euros on three players. And it doesn’t look like the market is going to end here…

Ranking of the most expensive Spanish players

  1. Kepa Arrizabalaga 18/19 Chelsea FC 80
  2. Marc Cucurella 22/23 Chelsea FC 68
  3. Lvaro Morata 17/18 Chelsea FC
  4. Aymeric Laporte 17/18 Manchester City 65
  5. Rodri 19/20 Manchester City 62.7
  6. Fernando Torres 2010/11 Chelsea FC 58.5
  7. Ferran Torres 21/22 FC Barcelona 55
  8. Diego Costa 17/18 Atlético de Madrid 50
  9. Gaizka Mendieta 2001/02 SS Lazio 48
  10. Juan Mata 13/14 Manchester United 44.73

Marc Cucurella would become the second most expensive Spanish signing in history. The 68 million euros that he has paid to get his services from Chelsea to Brighton are only surpassed by the 80 that the same London team released to Athletic Bilbao to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 2018/19 season. The Blues signed Álvaro Morata for 66 million euros in 2017/18.
