During the draw for the group stage of the Champions League, held on Thursday August 25 in Istanbul, Olympique de Marseille was relatively spared by inheriting the Germans from Eintracht Frankfurt, the English from Tottenham and the Portuguese from Sporting Portugal in Group D.
Paris-Saint-Germain, protected by its seeded status, is in a group well within its reach, Pool H being made up of Juventus Turin, Benfica Lisbon and Maccabi Haifa.
Real Madrid, holders, will meet the Germans of RB Leipzig, the Ukrainians of Chakhtar Donetsk and the Scots of Celtic Glasgow in group F. As for Atlético de Madrid, they will play against FC Porto, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Brugge.
FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich will face off in the Group C clash with Inter Milan and FC Viktoria Plzen. It will be the return to Bavaria of star striker Robert Lewandowski, just weeks after his transfer to Catalonia from Bayern.
Among the duels to follow, the clash between AC Milan and Chelsea will be one of the highlights of the group stage, in Pool E. But the two teams seem far superior to FC Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb, others group teams.
In Group A, Ajax Amsterdam will face Liverpool, Napoli and Glasgow Rangers while, in Pool G, Manchester City, Sevilla FC, Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen will play.
