In a duet with Ukrainian Lyudmila Kichenok, Ostapenko lost to American Sonia Kenina and Kazakh tennis player Julia Putintseva – 6-1, 1-6, 4-10. The Latvian and Ukrainian pair, seeded sixth in the tournament, previously defeated Norwegian Ulrike Eiker and American tennis player Katerina Harrison in the first round.

Putintseva went to the court twice on Thursday, successfully continuing the singles tournament as well, where she beat American tennis player Allison Riski-Armitraj 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 16.

Polish world leader Iga Šviontek did not make it past the round of 16, losing to Brazilian Beatrice Hadada Maia 4-6, 6-3, 5-7. Šviontek’s streak of 20 matches on hard surfaces was snapped.

It has already been reported that Ostapenko did not make it past the second round in singles either, where she lost to Riske-Armitraj.

One of the season’s most important tournaments outside of the “Grand Slam” level is taking place in Toronto, bringing together all the TOP10 tennis players. The tournament with a prize pool of more than 2.5 million USD on hard courts will last until August 14.
