Opening of a new training room in Coaticook

By Pierre-Olivier Girard

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. After years of formalities and major work worth close to a million dollars, the new training room at the Center Sportif Desjardins will open its doors this Thursday 1is September, in a 5 to 7 formula to which the whole population is invited.

This will be an opportunity to discover this room called “The Athletic Lab Club”, which has been set up in the defunct palestra of the La Frontalière school. The regulars who frequented the school’s former training room risk completely losing their bearings, but for the better, as assured by the chairman of the board of directors of Acti-Sports MRC Coaticook, Vincent Brochu.

“We end up with a training room that is twice as big. In addition, we change our vocation in a way, moving from a more classic weight room to a global teaching of training, of the CrossFit type. It is still possible to do specific weight lifts there, but our kinesiologists specialize in overall health, fitness, physical rehabilitation, for a clientele of all ages. We are targeting both a person who wants to improve their time on a 21 km as well as an elderly person who wants to play with their grandchildren without pain. »

If the bill for the work turned out to be so high, it is because this project required much more than the simple purchase of new equipment. For example, a lot of money went into restructuring the floor to increase its load capacity. Added to this component are works for ventilation, electricity and lighting, to name a few. “This winter, we will install two batting cages for golf and baseball. With such a complete and even unique hall in Quebec, I am convinced that we will attract even more people and that the whole community will benefit, both our young people and the citizens of the MRC. Some will even be ready to drive an hour to train here,” concludes Vincent Brochu.

It should be noted that La Frontalière will use the former gymnasium premises to make new premises for its teaching staff.
