Serena Ondei is Judo cadet vice world championafter the exploit that Saturday 27 August made her get on the second step of the podium at the World Championship Cadets, the youth world championship event a Sarajevo, in Bosnia. For the 17-year-old from Rovetta, second place at the Cadet World Championships is the confirmation of her rise on the international scene of the discipline after the bronze at the European Championships in June in Croatia.
To get to play for the world title, Serena faced four matches, starting with the challenge to Canadian Kiera Burt, beaten with ippon uchimata. After overcoming the French Teophila Darbes-Takam, Serena worked overtime in the semifinals to beat the Kazakh Azhar Askhat, vice-champion of Asia, set to the golden score with the disqualification of the opponent. Between Serena and the dream of gold remains the Uzbek Barchinoy Kodirova who seems within reach. But the Uzbek surprised the Bergamo player at the start of the match and there was nothing for Serena to do.
