Omonia Nicosia is the last hurdle for AA Gent on the way to the Europa League group stage | Europa League

So it will be Omonia from Nicosia for AA Gent in the play-off round of the Europa League.

The Cypriots made it very difficult for Antwerp last year in the same phase of the qualifications. Omonia then won the first leg 4-2, but Antwerp won 2-0 at home and triumphed in a blood-curdling penalty shoot-out.

AA Gent first plays at home on August 18, and the return leg is in Cyprus on August 25. The winner of the double confrontation can go to the group stage of the Europa League, for the loser there is the safety net of the Conference League.

Omonia was recently in the news because it would become the new employer of Didier Lamkel Zé, but Antwerp’s turbulent waters refused to take the medical tests. After all, the Cameroonian had set his sights on a transfer to Ferençvaros in Hungary.
