NFL – Football: Tyron Smith could miss several months of activities

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a torn left hamstring during practice on Wednesday.

Smith is likely to miss several months of the 2022 season, ESPN reports.

Smith appeared to misstep while running to deliver a second-level block to linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. He injured his left knee, fell to the ground and was there for about a minute.

On August 1, Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse made a quick comeback from a knee hyperextension. There is hope that Smith’s situation could be similar, but the MRI will eventually clarify.

He was later seen exiting the facility on his own.

Less chance for the Giants

The New York Giants lost receiver Collin Johnson for the season on Wednesday the same day veteran Sterling Shepard returned to the practice field.

Johnson tore his Achilles tendon during Wednesday’s practice, according to the team. The six-foot-six University of Texas wide receiver had been getting reps with the first team over the past few weeks in practice with Kadarius Toney and Shepard among those on the sidelines.

First-year coach Brian Daboll had noted earlier in the week that Johnson and fellow receiver David Sills were making an impression. Johnson started the game in Sunday’s preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He had three receptions for 41 yards. For his part, Sills had five catches for 56 yards.
