The Los Angeles Chargers have offered a four-year contract extension worth $76.4 million, of which $42 million would be guaranteed, to safety Derwin James, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
With an average annual salary of $19.1 million, James becomes the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

26-year-old James is entering his fourth season on the circuit.
James played 15 games last season, making 118 tackles, two interceptions, two quarterback sacks, and seven quarterback tackles.
