National team – DFB women: Urbansky new assistant coach

Frankfurt am Main (SID) – national soccer coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is getting a new assistant. Former U19 coach Michael Urbansky has joined the mentoring team for the women’s national team, which is preparing for the final two World Cup qualifiers in Frankfurt/Main from Tuesday.

“He will enrich us with his expertise, his great personality, the way he thinks and lives football and his fresh and innovative view,” said Voss-Tecklenburg about the 41-year-old Urbansky, who currently has the German’s pro license Football Association (DFB) acquires: “He’s a guy who fits in well with us.”

After the last European Championship finals, the DFB declared that the previous assistants Thomas Nörenberg and Patrik Grolimund would vacate their posts at their own request. Assistant Britta Carlson, goalkeeper coach Michael Fuchs and ex-professional Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, who is responsible for neuroathletics, are still on the staff of the Vice European Champion.

“I want to help develop the team, provide impetus and convey our common understanding of football,” said Urbansky. For Joti Chatzialexiou, the sporting director of the national teams, Urbansky was the “absolutely ideal candidate”.

The Germans have to play in the final World Cup qualifiers on Saturday in Turkey (2.45 p.m. / ZDF) and on Tuesday next week in Bulgaria (6.30 p.m. / ARD One). The DFB selection leads Group H with a three-point lead over Serbia.

A win in both games is enough for the two-time world champion to secure a ticket for next year’s finals in Australia and New Zealand (July 20 to August 20).
