A Formula 1 car of Michael Schumacher has been sold at an auction in the United States for more than 6.1 million euros. Sotheby’s auction house reports this. The German won four races with the car in 1998.

The buyer and seller have not been disclosed. Beforehand, the value of the Ferrari F300, specifically Chassis 187, was estimated at between 6 and 8 million dollars.

Schumacher won the F1 races in Canada, France, Great Britain and Italy with Chassis 187. He also won the races in Argentina and Hungary that season with a different chassis, but he did not become world champion. It is according to Sotheby’s a very unique model.

Never restored

The previous owner owned the chassis for 23 years. Before that, it was in the hands of Scuderia, the racing arm of Ferrari. The chassis was never restored or modified during that period. The public has never seen the Ferrari since 1998.

The Ferrari is not the most expensive Formula 1 car ever to be auctioned. In recent years, F1 cars have been auctioned for much higher amounts.

Schumacher has not appeared in public for years. He suffered a serious head injury at the end of December 2013 in the French Alps as a result of a skiing accident. After the accident, he was in an artificial coma for six months. It is unclear what his current condition is.
