MHP giants: Garrett comes – Johnson fails a medical check

Shortly after the start of training, Markell Johnson had to say goodbye to the MHP giants in Ludwigsburg. The Bundesliga basketball club was able to close the gap quickly.

Johnson was actually planned for the Swabians. But after the American had already missed the start of training because some test results of the obligatory medical check were not available, it is now clear: The 23-year-old guard will not play for Ludwigsburg at all because he did not pass the medical examinations.

But the giants were only able to get a replacement within a few hours. Billy Garrett brings NBA experience to the baroque city. The 1.98 meter tall guard comes from Chicago and played four games for the New York Knicks in 2019. After stints in France and Greece, he won the G-League with the Lakeland Magic in 2021. Most recently he played in Poland and will now switch to the BBL.

“Billy gives our backcourt more depth,” Ludwigsburg coach Josh King is quoted as saying in a statement. “He’s a versatile, tall guard who had a great season in Poland last year. He’s capable of playing 1-3 positions, so he brings the versatility we were looking for. On he can take on a lot of tasks in the field and make our team better.”
