Latvian basketball player Mareks Mejeris will play in the Israeli club “Hapoel” of Jerusalem next season, the team announced. The contract is concluded for two years.

The 30-year-old forward started the previous season in the Perm “Parma” unit, but left the club after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In March, he joined the team “VL Pesaro” in Italy, coached by the head coach of the Latvian national team, Lukas Banki.

“Marek is a long combo player who can play in several positions. He can play with his back to the basket when we use him as a center, and he is also mobile enough to be used at the power forward position. We believe in his talent, experience and understanding of the game coming from top class coaches. The meeting with Marek has convinced me that he is a suitable player for us,” said Hapoel head coach Aleksandar Dzikic in a statement.

Mejeris is also excited about joining the team. “As soon as I received the first call from coach Džikić, I didn’t think twice. His ideas and what he was trying to build in Jerusalem fascinated me. I knew I wanted to be a part of this team,” said Mejeris.

During his career, the Latvian basketball player also played in various clubs in Latvia, Spain and France.
