Memories of Tiraspol: It was like under communism there, says Zlámal

What comes to mind when you hear Tiraspol?

Defeat by a goal, after which it was clear that we would finish last in the group. As far back as I can remember, the Sheriff had a solid personality back then. But the current team is much stronger than the one we were up against. But I also took away non-football experiences.

Yes. We went for a walk with the boys. That’s how I feel every time. When I’m in a foreign country, I like to look around.

I remember that my teammates and I laughed that it was like communism there. Time stopped there a long time ago. Plzeň will now play in Chisinau, but the environment in Moldova is not ideal in general. But they are obviously good at football, after all, they beat Real in the Champions League last fall. Pilsen won’t have it easy.

So you wouldn’t go to Tiraspol on vacation.

He drove, but only for familiarization. If you want to see what the Eastern Bloc looked like a long time ago, you will get a great picture there. Back then, it really was like the Soviet Union forty years ago. We apparently stayed in their best hotel, which in the Czech Republic would be more like a worse average.

What did the Sheriff’s stadium and facilities look like?

The stadium was, apparently still is, beautiful. It’s a different world from the surroundings. It was obvious that the owner of the club had money.

What kind of atmosphere should Viktoria prepare for?

It was definitely not stormy then, it’s hard to judge what it will be like in Chisinau on Tuesday. But Zlín, I think, did not pull. (laughs)

During the spring, you were one of the few who prophesied that Pilsen would win the title. How will it turn out in Tiraspol?

In the spring everyone was knocking on the head, but I guessed right. I think that Viktorka will advance, she has a better, more balanced squad. But Tiraspol surprised me in the Champions League. However, he has no competition in the league, he only gets through tough matches in European cups. However, I would not underestimate him in the slightest, even though he scored only three goals in the new season.

It was you who scored 13 of them in the spring for Kožušany in the IB class from the position of a midfielder in eleven matches. Will you continue in the club for which former national team stopper David Rozehnal plays?

I didn’t get the lasso from somewhere else, I have plans to continue scoring goals in Kožušany. Thirteen spring goals are not a bad business card. I liked it with a goal in the league years ago at Dukla, the taste just grows with food.
