“Marine Johannes? One of the best I have ever seen”

Author of a very good season in the WNBA, Marine Johannès never ceases to impress everyone at the New York Liberty. Just before Game 3 against Chicago, she was praised by a key figure in the franchise… Bad luck, she delivered a jagged performance just after.

Back in the US this year after a brief return to France, Marine Johannès seems to be leaving to stay for a while this time. Indeed, the young playmaker has made a place for herself in the New York major five, and her fine performances in the regular season have enabled her to justify the confidence of her coach Sandy Brondello. The latter is delighted with it, to the point of having seriously praised the interested party before Game 3 against Chicago Sky:

Johannès’ passing talent impresses

We have our systems in which we try to put her in a good situation, and then it’s up to her to do the right reading and adapt. He’s one of the best guards I’ve ever seen with his assists and vision of the game. We need him to be at his best tonight.

Having achieved the pass of the year during Game 1, the young tricolor never ceases to amaze the US with her ultra-spectacular caviars. At the same time, it’s hard not to be dazzled by its highlights!

That his coach makes such comments about him shows in any case how crucial it is to the smooth running of his team’s game, enough to give him wings at the start of the game. Indeed, she signed 9 points in the first quarter, showing herself to be ultra-precise at long distance since she converted all her three winning shots. And with manner please, because she notably allowed herself this superb pull-up in transition:

The start was therefore a fanfare, but the rest of the events were much more complicated. MJ thus disappeared from the radar, not registering any more the slightest point after this beautiful start to the match, and therefore finished with 9 units (3/7 in shooting), 4 rebounds and 4 assists. At the same time, the Liberty ended up sinking in the second half, losing 90-72 to the Illinois franchise. As a result, the latter now leads 2-1 in the series, much to the chagrin of the Gotham players.

Marine Johannès was entitled to a very nice compliment before the meeting, but it may well have turned against her, in view of her performance in the defeat of New York. We will have to get back in the saddle from the next match…
