Magic Johnson proposes retiring NBA-wide No. 6 in honor of Russell

Legendary basketball player and five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson proposed to phase out the game number Bill Russelwho passed away at the age of 88.

“Commissioner Adam Silver must retire NBA No. 6 in honor of Bill Russell!” Magik wrote on his social media.

As a reminder, Russell passed away on July 31st. He had 11 league titles in 13 seasons. Bill played with the Boston Celtics throughout his career. In addition to 11 titles, Bill won five league MVPs and was an 11-time NBA All-Star.

Earlier, six-time NBA champion and six-time championship MVP and association record holder for number of points scored, American Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, spoke about Russell’s death.
