Like Bolt! A great time on the 100, the young man was already celebrating twenty meters before the finish line

Nineteen-year-old Tebogo won with a time of 9.91. By three hundredths, he beat his personal best, which he set in the heats at the recent senior championships in Eugene.

Thanks to the big lead, he could afford to let go of the last twenty meters and start celebrating prematurely. Tebogo admitted he was inspired by eight-time Olympic champion Bolt, who similarly celebrated a triumph at the 2008 Olympics.

“I’m sorry if it offended anyone,” Reuters quoted Tebog as saying. “But I wanted people at home to enjoy the race and I also wanted to remember what Usain Bolt did because he’s my role model,” he added.

Tebogo also believes he could have run a time of 9.8 seconds if he hadn’t dropped the finish. “There are more races ahead of me, so I didn’t want to go all out. But this is my year in juniors and I want to leave a record here for future generations to beat,” he said.

Bolt’s adult record of 9.58 has stood for almost thirteen years.

Shot putter Katrin Brzyszkowská took care of the best result of the Czech expedition in Colombia so far. Her performance of 15.06 meters earned her seventh place, the defending champion Miné de Klerková from South Africa won (17.17).
