Kobe Bryant: the sheriff’s deputy does not regret having photographed the human remains of the basketball player and his daughter

Following this tragic accident, Vanessa Bryant accused the authorities of having taken photos of the scene despite the claim made to Sheriff Alex Villanueva to secure the site the same morning. “As the Sheriff’s Office later admitted, there was no investigative benefit to these officers taking photos at the crash site. They took the photos for their own purposes”the complaint stated. Vanessa Bryan also accuses the county of then releasing the images to people outside the investigation. “It infuriates me that the people I trusted to protect the dignity of my husband and daughter abused their position to obtain memories of their deaths, as if owning photos of their remains somehow made them special kind”she explained in 2021 in an official statement.

The sheriff’s deputy acknowledges the facts

“January 26, 2020 was and always will be the worst day of Vanessa Bryant’s life.”said the widow’s lawyer at the opening of the trial on Wednesday August 10. “They poured salt on an incurable wound”, he explained. One of the defendants, Doug Johnson, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy, spoke on the third day of the trial. According to information from TMZHe reportedly admitted taking dozens of photos, mostly close-ups, of human remains located around the wreckage. The order would have come to him from one of his superiors, even if this superior in question had declared that he had never given such an order. Doug Johnson also claimed he didn’t know the NBA legend and his daughter were among the victims. In a ravine near the accident, he would also have taken photos of the body “of a black child with long hair”, presumably Gianna’s. The trial is due to continue in the coming days.
