Elizabeth Zamora, Kevin Cordón, Jason Hess, Gisela Morales, Charles Fernández and Waleska Soto, were the athletes and former athletes present at the Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium in which they set their position on the decision made by the CC last week.

Kevin Cordón is honest about the situation of national sport

Kevin CordonGuatemalan badminton player, fourth place in his branch in Tokyo 2020, expressed his concern about the current situation that the Guatemalan athlete is experiencing.

“This is a very difficult situation, not only are they affecting high-performance sport, but also the processes, it is inevitable. I will be direct, sport is a joy and today it is already a legal issue, it is a sad situation, I say this as an athlete and as a Guatemalan, sport is difficult, and more so in our country that practicing sport is a luxury, not like others countries, and little by little results have come, but this affects, I hope that this sad issue is resolved as soon as possible”, said the Guatemalan athlete.

How would this suspension affect Guatemalan sports?

In Guatemala and Latin America it is a luxury to play sports, in this country there are other needs and priorities, sports is not a priority, we go against the current compared to developed countries, anything negative is going to affect us, in case the chapín athlete goes against the current , whatever remains we will go further against the current.

What do you think about the resolution of the CC?

We are not politicians; We don’t know about laws. We know how to do our sport and what a child and a person wants most is to represent their country.

What is your opinion about the state of national sport?

Right now there is a fight; there is something ugly in sports, and those who are asking the least are the athletes, it is the truth. Right now the whole problem to those who have been asked the least is the athletes, it is good that my colleagues have taken this initiative.

Any message to the authorities?

Support the athlete, I don’t know anything about laws or this problem, what I would love is for the people who are fighting for this better to unite and give facilities to Guatemalans, as politicians do with developed countries.

Do they affect these decisions?

One is professional and knows how to divide his things, which is professional and training. We are going to the World Cup. What happens is that there are always the ‘dimes and diretes’, and although one wants to ‘play crazy’, that affects. If the mental issue is not right, you will not be able to perform well in your sport and in competition.

What’s next for Kevin Cordón?

On Wednesday the 17th I travel to the World Cup (of Badminton), the tournament will be in Tokyo, we have to leave earlier for scheduling reasons, hopefully I will be in the gym where the Olympic Games were held and what better than July now, the tournament starts on the 22nd of this month.
