Julien Watrin: “I couldn’t enjoy the race as I would have liked”

Sixth in the final of the 400m hurdles, in 48.98, Julien Watrin displayed a legitimate disappointment, especially since at the start of the final stretch, the Virtonais was still in the fight for the bronze medal.

“Yes, I’m a bit disappointed because I couldn’t enjoy the race as I would have liked. And yet, I was on fire during the warm-up. I was fast, faster than in Eugene. And then, the atmosphere in this stadium was incredible. There was a lot of noise. It was a nice experience. I had shivers. In the audience, there were also my parents, my sister, my girlfriend. And even my first coach who had come specially. As for my race, it was not as good as usual. I do not really know why. I hit the fifth hurdle with my knee and lost my rhythm. I was too far from the hedges. In the second corner, I asked myself questions. And yet, I am still convinced that the bronze medal was within my reach. Too bad… But the season is not over. Now I will recover. The speed is definitely there for the 4x400m relay.”
