Jules Koundé still can’t play with Barca

The contracts of Franck Kessié, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski have been approved, but not that of the French.

French defender Jules Koundé, transferred to FC Barcelona this summer, has not yet been registered by La Liga among the players authorized to play in the Catalan jersey, unlike other recruits including striker Robert Lewandowski. According to the newspaper Marca, the French international (23 years old, 11 caps) can only be registered if the club, in the grip of economic difficulties, reduces its payroll. “So in the next few days, players in the squad will have to leave“, specifies the daily.

The contracts of the other players who arrived in Catalonia this summer, the Ivorian Franck Kessié (free arrival from AC Milan), the Dane Andreas Christensen (free arrival from Chelsea) and the Brazilian Raphinha (58 M EUR from Leeds ), just like that of Lewandowski, were also approved. They will be able to take part in the meeting against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday at the opening of La Liga.

600 million euros

Koundé signed at the end of July with Barça for five years. According to the Spanish press, Barça paid 50 million euros, with 10 million bonuses, to recruit the former defender of Sevilla FC. After announcing on August 1 the sale of 24.5% of the shares of Barça Studios to the Socios.com platform for 100 M EUR, FC Barcelona indicated on Friday that it had sold an additional 24.5% of its subsidiary to the company. Orpheus Media, headed by Jaume Roures, for an additional 100 million euros. Added to this is the sale this summer of 10% and then 15% of income from La Liga TV rights to the American investment fund Sixth Street for a total of EUR 400 million. All to respect the salary cap before the start of the championship.
