Dhanbad Aug 20 – In order to host the national under-13 badminton tournament for the first time in the state, the Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) has resigned from the position of vice president in the All India Badminton Association (AIBA).

According to the sources, K Prabhakaro, general secretary of the Jharkhand Badmin Association, was due to be elected as the new vice president of the national organization at the AIBA annual general meeting, which was held last month. However, he turned down the job offer at the last minute of the meeting and opted instead to host the U-13 national championship in Jharkhand.

Rao, who also serves as the deputy secretary of the national organization, is considered a close associate of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the president of the All India Badminton Association. According to reports, most of the delegates chose Rao’s name unanimously. However, Rao declined the vice president post after noticing the interest of some other contenders.

K Prabhakar Rao acknowledged accepting the offer of the vice president position in the national organization when contacted. “The publication does not concern me before the development of the game in Jharkhand. So, rather than having a position of responsibility in the organization, I preferred the U-13 national championship”, he stated.

Rao said the U-13 national championship would be jointly hosted by Tata Steel and the Jharkhand Badminton Association in Jamshedpur during the last month of this year. This is the first national badminton championship category event that Jharkhand will host in 22 years since it became a separate state.

“I believe in sacrifice, and by rejecting the national body’s offer, I showed my critics in the state that I don’t want the job but want the development of the game in the state,” Rao said.

Rao lamented that despite dedicating his life to game development in the state, some vested interests put all the agencies (except ED) behind him to expel him from the association. The BAI Secretary General said that since he always follows the path of truth, no one will be able to take him away.

“However, it pains me that my critics have now turned to national coach Sachin Rana to settle the score after me. Sachin is dedicated to the game and is the pride of Jharkhand. Unfortunately, they are targeting him for no good reason,” Rao added.
