Italy flies to Sarajevo with twenty blue to improve the results of the European Championships – OA Sport

They start in two days in Sarajevo i Judo World Cadet Championships 2022, scheduled from Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 August. This is the first Under 18 world championship after almost three years of waiting (due to the calendar complications related to Covid), in fact the last edition was staged even in Almaty in 2019. In Kazakhstan, the Bel Paese even finished in fifth place of the medal table with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes.

Italy presents itself in the Bosnian capital with an expedition formed by 20 athletes, distributed equally between female and male categories, to try to improve the results obtained at the last European Championships in Poreč, Croatia. In the continental context, the blue team took home only two medals, both bronze, however showing a good depth as evidenced by the ten placings close to the podium (between fifth and seventh places).

The Italian Cadets, born between 2005 and 2007, played a very convincing first part of the season at the international level in the continental circuit, only to collect less than expected at the European Championships, but now there is a new chance for many young Italian judokas in sight. of the most important appointment of the year.

Great expectations especially for the female sector, starting with the fresh European medals Gaia Stella (bronze in the 57 kg) e Serena Ondei (bronze in the -70 kg). Among the possible tricolor medal cards it is then impossible not to mention two talents such as Michela Terranova (52 kg) and Savita Russo (57 kg), in addition to Rebecca Valeriani (44 kg), Alessandra Rocco (48 kg) and Serena Maddaloni (63 kg).

In the men’s field the peaks of the tricolor movement are Federico Ninfo, Federico Bosis (both in the -66 kg), Alberto Tripepi (55 kg) and Francesco Sampino (60 kg), but it will not be easy to get on the world championship podium. Compared to the last Cadet World Cup, Japan has only 6 athletes (3 by sex) and therefore there should be more space for other countries, including Italy. At the end of the program, on Sunday, the team test will take place without the blue team.
