Isaïa Cordinier will not participate in EuroBasket 2022. However, the final selection of the French men’s team is not yet known. The shadow of Moustapha Fall hangs over the group.

Isaïa Cordinier (1.90 m, 25 years old) has just been released by the French men’s team. The back / winger of Virtus Bologna will therefore not participate in EuroBasket.

A choice dictated by “complementarity”

The performances of Terry Tarpey, still very good on Saturday in Bosnia-Herzegovina (the best +/- of the team with +21), have a lot to do with it. The Le Mans winger passed him in the role ofenergizer off the bench.

“I would like to congratulate and thank Isaïa for his exemplary attitude throughout this preparation, explained coach Vincent Collet. He has shown unfailing commitment by working extensively with us, in an irreproachable state of mind. We had to make a delicate and difficult choice essentially dictated by complementarity. »

Indeed, having two players with the same profile did not seem logical for the staff while doubts still hang over the position of leader. Just back to competition, Andrew Albicy is not yet in top form (5 fouls in 12 minutes on Saturday). Removing Théo Maledon from the group and going to the Euros with a single professional leader (Thomas Heurtel) in full possession of his means seemed too risky.

With or without Moustapha Fall?

In its press release, the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) notes that the tricolor selection for EuroBasket ” not yet determined”. The staff can make their choice until Wednesday, the day before the start of the competition. The shadow of Moustapha Fall hangs over the group. Will he be ready in time to replace Mouhammadou Jaiteh and provide the fixing point that the Blues lack? To be continued.

The French team at the moment:

  • Positions 1: Thomas Heurtel and Andrew Albicy
  • 1/2 : Théo Maledon
  • 2/1: Elie Okobo
  • 2/3: Evan Fournier (captain)
  • 3/2: Terry Tarpey and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot
  • 4: Guerschon Yabusele et Amath M’Baye
  • 5/4: Vincent Poirier
  • 5: Rudy Gobert and Mouhammadou Jaiteh
