In Cagliari the European judo championships for the blind and visually impaired – Sardinia

Score is valid for qualification for the Paris Paralympics

The qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympics also passes through Cagliari. In fact, the European judo championship for Paralympic, visually impaired and blind athletes takes place at PalaPirastu from 2 to 4 September: 22 registered nations, 250 athletes plus a hundred companions. The event is organized by the IBSA (International blind sport Association), the international Paralympic federation of sport for the blind, with the support of the Region and the collaboration of the Municipality.

“The European judo championship will serve as a score for the 2024 Paralympics – explained the FISPIC and IBSA president Sandro Di Girolamo, during the presentation of the program – through this event we also want to bring the culture of Paralympic sport to the center by sending a message above all to young people. We invite able-bodied children to understand that if our athletes can do it, they can do it too, so it is an exhortation to leave the electronic devices, increasingly fashionable, to move to sports fields “.

An appointment between sport and tourism. The data of the organization say that about 80% of those who will arrive in the city, visit Sardinia for the first time, 3 out of 5 could choose the city as a destination for their holidays, thus returning to the places of the championship. And from 2 to 4 September it is estimated that the accommodation facilities in the regional capital can count about 2 thousand visitors.

“Sports tourism – said the regional councilor for tourism Gianni Chessa – had never been considered at these levels and the fruits of this program are beginning to be seen, which did not stop even during the health emergency, promoting Sardinia as ‘Island of sport’. The European judo championship is also part of this project, which represents an event of undoubted quality. These events can also contribute to the economic recovery, if we consider that about 350 people stay on the island for five / six nights. A benefit for the whole territory. We still have thirty-eight events scheduled until December “.
