German tennis player Alexander Zverev confirmed on Thursday that he has “no doubt” that he will be able to play in the Davis Cup group stage to be held in Hamburg in mid-September, for which he has already started “training hard.” and he said he was already preparing for her.

“I have already started training hard for the Davis Cup. I have no doubt that I will be in the Davis Cup,” Zverev told a news conference in the German city of Hamburg.

The current world number 2 sprained his ankle in the Roland Garros semifinal against Rafa Nadal on June 3, tearing three lateral ligaments in his right ankle. But the recovery is going faster than expected, as he himself acknowledged.

The group stage of the Davis Cup will be held from September 13 to 18 at the Rothenbaum in Hamburg. The German team, captained by Michael Kohlmann, will face France (September 14), Belgium (16) and Australia (18).

“Of course they are strong rivals, but we also have a strong team. It will be a turning point for me this year, as well as for the others in the team,” he commented on the pairings.

On the other hand, Zverev did not close the door on his possible participation in the fourth and last ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, the US Open, which takes place from August 29 to September 11.

“I’m not sure I can be,” he said, explaining that he will know better in ten days. “If it was a normal best-of-three (sets) tournament, then I could say maybe I’d be ready. But best-of-five as the first tournament after coming back is tough,” he said.
