Great “little” Italy at the Judo Cadet World Championships ’22

The Judo Cadet World Championships were held in Sarajevo from 24 to 28 July in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The first four days are dedicated to individual competitions while on the last day there was the mixed team competition.

Italy U18 in individual competitions

Italy participated in the individual competition from 24 to 27 July with: Rebecca Valeriani (-44 kg), Ilaria Finestrone and Alessandra Rocco (-48 kg), Gaia Massimetti and Michela Terranova (-52 kg), Savita Russo and Gaia Stella (-57 kg), Serena Maddaloni (-63 kg), Serena Ondei (-70 kg), Morgana De Paoli (+70), Emiliano Lattanzi (-50 kg), Davide Erricchiello and Alberto Tripepi (-55 kg), Francesco Sampino (-60 kg), Federico Bosis and Federico Ninfo (-66 kg), Danilo Articolo and Lucio Tavoletta (-73 kg), Tommaso Perfetti and Francesco Sansonetti (-81 kg).

Italy has conquered: a gold medal con Gaia Massimetti (-52 kg), a silver medal con Serena Ondei (-70 kg), three bronze medals con Rebecca Valeriani (-44 kg), Savita Russo (-57 kg) e Federico Bosis (-66 kg), due fifth places con Ilaria Finestrone (-48 kg) and Michela Terranova (-52 kg) e and seventh place con Francesco Sansonetti (-81 kg).

Gaia Massimetti (-52 kg) he skipped the first round and then won all the matches until he reached the end, respectively against Ariunzaya Terbish (Mgl), Nicole Cancela (USA) and Yi-Hsi Shen (Tpe), then bronze medal. In the final she brilliantly won against Sugdiyona Rafkatova (Uzb), becoming world champion with a well-deserved gold medal around her neck. This young athlete played the anthem of Italy in Bosnia in this World Championship.

Serena Ondei (-70 kg) passed the round and won all the matches respectively with Kiera Burt (Can), Teophila Darbes-Takam (Fra) and Azhar Askhat (Kaz) up to disputing the final for the world title against Barchinoy Kodirova (Uzb). Unfortunately, in 9 seconds she went under a waza-ari for the backlash of the opponent on “ko-ouchi gari” and after just over a minute the Uzbek athlete did ippon of “tsuri-komi-goshi”. Serena Ondei thus became world vice-champion, taking home a very important silver medal.

Rebecca Valeriani (-44 kg) she won the first match with Valeria Toribio Montero (Esp) and the quarter-finals against Marketa Korcakova (Cze), but she lost the semifinal to Vera Wandel (Ned), graduate then world champion, but in the final for the bronze she won against Marta Beorlegui Oses (Esp) thus conquering a very important place on the podium.

Savita Russo (-57 kg) passed the round and won against Galini Sirinidou (Gre), Snezhana Gramatikova (Bul) and in the quarter-finals against Dana Abdirova (Kaz) while losing the semifinal to Bianca Reis (Bra), then the silver medal she already had defeated her national and category mate Gaia Stella, to make up for the bronze in the final against Julia Bulanda (Pol), thus gaining a place on the podium.

Federico Bosis (-66 kg) missed the first round and won against Pavle Petrovic (Srb) and Anthony Farnot (USA), before losing in the quarter-finals to Saba Samadashvili (Geo), who later became world champion in the category, while in the repechage he won against Kohsei Toyoshima (Aus) and in the final for the bronze he won against Nijat Naghiyev (Aze) with a beautiful and very fast kata-guruma, thus deservedly climbing on the podium.

Ilaria Finestrone (-48 kg) he missed the first round and then won until the quarter-finals respectively against Anastasiia Levchenko (Ukr), Zeinab Safa (Egy) and Aydan Valiyeva (Aze), then bronze medal, but in the semifinals he lost against Kano Miyaki (Jpn) , who later became world champion, in the final for the bronze unfortunately she lost against Nandin-Erdene Myagmarsuren (Mgl), despite competing well, thus finishing in fifth place.

Michela Terranova (-52 kg) she missed the first round, she won against Vanessa Tolea (Rou) but she lost the quarter-finals to Yi-Hsi Shen (Tpe), she made up for the repechage by winning against Nicole Cancela (USA) but in the final for the bronze she lost at the golden score against Anna Tieliegina (Ukr), finishing in fifth place.

Francesco Sansonetti (-81 kg) passed the round and won against Mate Chapurishvili (Geo) and Ronald Proell (Aut) but lost both in the quarter-finals against Igor Tsurkan (Ukr), then bronze medal, and in the repechage against Panagiotis Kyvelidis (Gre), finishing so in seventh place.

He lost in the third fight Gaia Stella (-57 kg), Serena Maddaloni (-63 kg) and Federico Ninfo (-66 kg).

Gaia Stella (-57 kg) she went directly to the second match she won against Danielle Pekler (USA) but lost the next match with Bianca Reis (Bra), who later became world vice-champion in the category.

Serena Maddaloni (-63 kg) she passed the first round and won against Marissa Finka (Aus), then losing the third round to Euna Koh (Kor).

Federico Ninfo (-66 kg) he passed the first round, then won after more than 9 minutes of golden score against Rodrigo Janeiro (Por) but then lost, after a golden score of 8 minutes, against Alexis Renard (Fra).

They lost in the second match: Alessandra Rocco (-48 kg), Morgana De Paoli (+70), Emiliano Lattanzi (-50 kg), Davide Erricchiello and Alberto Tripepi (both -55 kg), Danilo Articolo and Lucio Tavoletta (both -73 kg) and Tommaso Perfetti (-81 kg).

Alessandra Rocco (-48 kg) he passed the first round while he lost the next round to Luca Veg (Hun).

Morgana De Paoli (+70) she won against Marianna Karas (Can) but lost later against Nigar Suleymanova (Aze).

Emiliano Lattanzi (-50 kg) he missed the first round but lost the second to Mahammad Mamishov (Aze).

Davide Erricchiello (-55 kg) he won against Nikola Radivojevic (Bih) while he lost against Oleksandr Martunchuk (Ukr)

Same fate for the national team mate and the category Alberto Tripepi (-55 kg)who won against Alexander Marlov (Swe) but then lost to Saba Sabashvili (Geo), bronze medal at the end of the day.

Danilo Item (-73 kg) he passed the round but lost the next round to Kay Wallace (USA).

Same fate for the national team mate and the category, Lucio Tablet (-73 kg)who missed the first round but then lost to Antonio Medeiros Neto (Bra).

Tommaso Perfetti (-81 kg) he missed the round but lost to Dusan Grahovac (Srb), then bronze medal.

He lost in the first round Francesco Sampino (-60 kg) contro Matija Jeremic (Serb).

In this mixed team competition Italy did not participate but there were 14 nations: Azerbaijan, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The categories concerned were: the female ones -48 kg; -63 kg; +63 kg, while the male ones -60 kg; -81 kg; +81 kg.
