Government of Risaralda manages international cooperation to benefit sports leagues

Pereira, August 19, 2022.

The ‘Sentimiento de Todos’ administration maintains its line of international management in an attempt to promote development in the different unions and sectors. Sports and recreation are part of that line.
In 2021, the Secretary of Sport, Recreation and Culture invested efforts in achieving international articulation to impact the recreation area. Communication was achieved in a process that is ongoing and that connects Risaralda with France.

In this 2022 the focus was sports, for this reason an international cooperation request was carried out, with the aim of achieving expert badminton volunteering and thus strengthening the teaching and qualification component of this sport at the local level.
“This year we are advancing in a request to the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, with which we are seeking to bring Japanese experts for different sports disciplines; in this case with the Risaralda Badminton League, presenting a pre-application and then an official application which was accepted”, shared Lizeth Cantillo, coordinator of the international cooperation and promotion process of the Risaralda Secretary of Sport, Recreation and Culture. .

The badminton league, which is one of the best organized sports entities in the department, has shown interest in developing the sports component, always hand in hand with the academy.

Even Risaralda is the only department in Colombia that has the coach with a Level III course, the highest level obtained so far by a Colombian citizen before the World Badminton Federation.

On this occasion and seeing new experiences on the horizon, the agency was interested in visiting our department.

That visit took place this Wednesday, August 18, led by the Asian Ruriko Matsuoka, who was received by Lizeth Cantillo.
Risaralda again connecting with international representation in a cooperation scenario. It was to reconnect looks this time with the lens set on the associated sport.

“We had a pleasant visit where they met the coach, the athletes and the different processes led by the entity. For us as the Government of Risaralda it is very important to offer this support to the different leagues, to start opening doors at an international level and to continue growing in Risaralda sports”, added Lizeth Cantillo.

Matsuoka starred in a tour of the facilities of the Coliseo Menor de Pereira, where he received information about the process developed by the leagues in this venue and taking away a significant amount of information about the high level of coffee athletes.

“Very happy that the organization has given us a positive response. We understand that this is a long process, but it began thanks to the management and support provided by the Government of Risaralda. This is a long process; however, we are passing filters. We hope that in 2023 we can end the year with a person of Japanese origin supporting our technical and practical processes”, added Willian Gutiérrez, departmental badminton coach.

At the end of August, the final answer is expected to be received, to find out if the department has benefited from the arrival of international volunteers who are experts in badminton.
