Garino (Girona) is out of the Copa America with Argentina due to an injury

Patricio “Pato” Garino has a first degree tear in the biceps femoris of his right leg and is off with the Argentine team for the AmeriCup, which will be played from next Saturday in Recife, Brazil. In this way, Garino did not participate in Argentina’s victory against The Bahamas by 95-77 in the fourth window for World Cup qualification, as did Máximo Fjellerup, who is also affected and has also fallen from the list that will contest the Copa America.

Injuries are again affecting the sporting development of the 29-year-old Argentine winger after he underwent meniscus surgery just two years ago and suffered hamstring problems last season. Precisely these last discomforts were the definitive argument to end the link with the French Nanterre, where he played only eight games. He arrived at Basketball Girona after completing his recovery on his own, but before Garino had the opportunity to come under the orders ofAíto Garcia Reneses has fallen back into the well of injuries.

In this way, however, Garino leaves the concentration of Argentina for Fuenlabrada winger Juan Francisco Fernández to occupy it and he can focus one hundred percent on recovering and thinking about Girona and his return to the ACB. The first reports indicate that the injury to the biceps femoris would be minor, but it is still unknown when he will be able to join Aíto García Reneses’ work sessions and if he will arrive to play the first league match against Madrid on the 28th September

After Dusan Miletic and Quino Colom joined the Girona discipline last week, Pato Garino and Máximo Fjellerup should also do so in the coming days. At the moment only Roko Prkacin has sports commitments away from Fontajau, concentrated with his selection for the Eurobasket. The two Argentine players, therefore, would join Pol Figueras, Kameron Taylor, Ondrej Hanzlik, Jaume Sorolla, Josep Franch, Èric Vila, Quino Colom, Dusan Miletic and Marc Gasol, in addition to some youngsters from the EBA team.

Training session against the young talents of Overtime

When it is not yet a week since the first pre-season game of Basketball Girona (73-72 defeat against Manresa), Aíto’s team will play tomorrow a training match against the Overtime Elite (8pm) at Platja d’Aro in a duel behind closed doors.

The Overtime is an innovative project that has recently raised dust in the world of basketball. It is a closed league based in Atlanta that appeared at the end of 2021 and that pursues the goal of promoting young talents beyond the classic NCAA to reach the NBA Draft. Founded by tech gurus Dan Porter and Zack Weiner and backed by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, the academy gives young people a place to live, train, study and play. Pau Gasol is one of the managers.

This proposal is not well regarded among the big European clubs, since it aims to capture the young talents under their tutelage so that they end up irreducibly in the NBA. This means that young talents who play in training basketball for European teams consider the Overtime Elite a faster way to reach the American elite.
