Gaizka Maiza was the only Gipuzkoan player who played in the LEB Oro last season who was without a team, and the Ibarra point guard, after weighing various options to continue in the second state category, has decided to sign for the Baskonia subsidiary, which will play in LEB Silver.

After three seasons in LEB Oro, two in Coruña and one in Melilla, with this move he is coming home to be an important part of a project that aims to compete in the category in which he is going to debut. Baskonia was promoted last May from the EBA league and this time he has not sold the place with the aim of having a team in which his talents can begin to prove themselves. However, at home he does not have enough level players to compete in Silver, and as Savkov, Hanzlik and Cissoko are to play in ACB or in the United States, in the case of the Frenchman, the Alava have turned to Maiza.

The 26-year-old base ended last season without prominence after the change of coach in Melilla and has had options to join teams in the first half of the table such as Oviedo or Lleida, but those conversations did not bear fruit and while the market little by little left without many free places in the LEB Oro, the door of Baskonia was opened. In fact, the player from Ibarra will complete the first team training sessions under the command of Joan Peñarroya in these first few weeks.
