Football: Baumgartner initiates a catch-up race

In the duel between Hoffenheim and Bochum, a lively game developed from the start. Simon Zoller had given the guests, for whom Kevin Stöger played through, an early lead with a double strike (10th/13th). It was just as turbulent. A one-two from Andrej Kramaric and Robert Skov preceded the goal. Bochum’s keeper Manuel Riemann was only able to fend off the shot of the Croatian vice world champion and Baumgartner dusted off. Just eight minutes later, Ozan Kabak equalized (22′).

After that, both teams slowed down a bit, only after an hour did the spectators start screaming again. When Hoffenheim tried to attack, ÖFB team striker Baumgartner took a penalty – but Riemann parried the Kramaric shot from the point. As Hoffenheim became more and more desperate, ex-Salzburg player Munas Dabbur, who had previously come on for Baumgartner, saved the home side shortly before the end (88′).

Werder saves home draw against Stuttgart

In Bremen, the hosts took the initiative from the start in the 2-2 win over VfB Stuttgart, led by captain Marco Friedl, and deservedly took the lead through Niclas Füllkrug (4th). However, Stuttgart struck back through Wataru Endo (38′) and Silas (77′). ÖFB striker Kalajdzic shone twice as a preparer. When it was 1-1, he gave Endo a high five and served Silas with a perfect hole pass when they took the lead. Shortly before the final whistle, Oliver Burke secured a point for the promoted team from Bremen.

RB Leipzig missed their first win of the season in a 2-2 (1-1) win over 1. FC Köln in the second round. Returnee Timo Werner scored the lead for coach Domenico Tedesco’s team in the 36th minute with the help of guest goalkeeper Marvin Schwebe. Before the break, Florian Kainz was at the center of events twice for the billy goats.

Kainz twice in the spotlight

After an assist from the ÖFB legionnaire, Florian Dietz scored to equalize (40th). In added time, the 29-year-old fell theatrically after a slight elbow check against his neck – ex-Salzburg player Dominik Szoboszlai saw the red card. Outnumbered, Christopher Nkunku put the Saxons back in the lead (56′). After a corner from Kainz, Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol put the ball into his own goal (72′).

Three days after the 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid in the European Supercup, Oliver Glasner missed a three-pointer in the second league game with Frankfurt. Eintracht did not go beyond 1: 1 (1: 0) at Hertha. The Berliners took the lead in the third minute with a header from Suat Serdar. Shortly after the break, Daichi Kamada equalized (48′). Frankfurt has been waiting for a win for ten Bundesliga games across the season.
