First steps for the multipurpose field

Tre and a half million euros. This is the amount of funding, coming from PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) which the Municipality of Taranto will benefit from for the construction of a multipurpose sports field to be dedicated to sports whose practice is often penalized by the competition of more “popular” sports. Let’s talk about rugby, football e baseballwhich will finally have their own plant.

The chosen area

The structure will rise in an urban void in the Tuscan areain the Taranto 2 district. In particular, in the center between the Police Headquarters, the provincial command of the Guardia di Finanza and that of the Fire Brigade. The area is currently occupied by the remains of the former Navy tanks which supplied the nearby naval base of Chiapparo (one of the tanks is still clearly visible next to the Police Headquarters). The area will thus be redeveloped and put into a system with the nearby Salinella district, where the main facilities of the Mediterranean Games will be located.

Entrust the geological analyzes

In the session of 11 August the City Council approved the budget change (which must be converted within sixty days by the City Council) to collect the three and a half million from the PNRR. At the same time, the urban planning management entrusted the geological, hydrogeological, hydrological, hydraulic, geotechnical, seismic investigations of the area. This is a necessary preliminary step to the realization of the feasibility project, with which the actual design process will start.

The characteristics of the plant

Even without getting to the design, however, we can already say something about the characteristics of the system. It will grow on it a total area of 22,500.00 square meters. The field will have grass and clay surfaces, two areas for the warm-up of the players (one for each team) and two locker rooms for the athletes. There will also be three buildings intended for infirmary, warehouses / storage and company premises. There will obviously be a grandstand for spectatorsto finally make the most of the experience of the teams that are already involved in these disciplines.
