Fénix de Santiago to the LND U22 basketball semifinal

SANTO DOMINGO ESTE, RD.- The Fénix de Santiago team swept the Leñeros de Los Mina round of the quarterfinals, after the victory achieved this Sunday 74-62, in the sports center of the miners in the East Municipality, of the province of Santo Domingo.

The people from Santiago dominated the Leñeros 2-0, in a series that was agreed to 3-2, in the playoff stage of the U22 Men’s Basketball National Development League.

Sammy Rodríguez had 18 points and eight rebounds, Andy Molina 11 points and sacks, Alexis Marmolejos 10, five sacks and five assists, and Julio Rodríguez had nine.

For the Leñeros, Jean Jiménez scored 18 points and four assists, Ray Reyes had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, Luis Morillo 13 and Brayan Luciano 11 and eight rebounds.

With the triumph of Fénix, there are now three teams that advanced to the semifinal round (final four) of the LND U22, in the tournament dedicated to Fernando Teruel and option to the INAPA Cup (National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage), which is sponsored by Wellington Arnold.

San Sebastián de Moca and Truenos del Distrito were the first to cross to the final four, after they swept their quarterfinal series 2-0 (agreed to the best of a 3-2) against club Mauricio Báez and Bulldogs de Bameso, respectively, and now he is joined by Fénix de Santiago.

His advances reached him on Saturday after San Sebastián beat the Mauritians 92-75, at the Mauricio Báez club sports center in Villa Juana, and Thunder beat the Bamesians 82-55, at the Palacio de los Deportes Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto.

Navigators tie 1-1

Navegantes de Puerto Plata beat Coloniales de San Lázaro this Sunday 103-88, in a clash staged at the Fabio Rafael González sports center in Ciudad del Atlántico.

In this way, Navegantes equals 1-1 their quarterfinal series against Coloniales, which is scheduled to best of a 3-2, and whose final match will be next Wednesday, at 5:00 in the afternoon, in the sports center of the San Lázaro club, in the Capital.

Carlos Carela and Giancarlo Bastoniani each scored 24 and 22 points. Carela added six rebounds and six assists, and Bastoniani added 15 rebounds and five assists, Ludwing Brito 16 points, Randy Logombra 14 and Nomar Peralta 10.

In the defeat, Enmanuel D’Oleo 23 points, Manuel García 17 and Diego Colón 10 units.

The semifinal round (final four) will be played on August 17 at the Palacio de los Deportes.
