Espanyol presents Dani Gómez and expects Lazo

BarcelonaEspanyol reactivated the signings chapter with the addition of Dani Gómez, a 24-year-old striker who arrived on loan for around 100,000 euros from Levante. The white-and-blue club will not have any purchase option for the Madrid striker, but they do reserve the right to tempt: if Levante decides to accept any offer they receive for the player in the coming months, Espanyol will be able to decide whether he matches it and takes it away or if he allows the sale to a third club.

“It’s a great challenge, I think I’ll be able to grow a lot as a player. I share the values of the club and I know that it is an entity that is in the process of growth”, assured Dani Gómez in his presentation as a Spanish player. “I had a good feeling talking to Diego Martínez, he told me that he will demand a lot from me and the rest of the team”, he added. The striker from Alcorcón has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 70 games with Llevant, where he has played the last two seasons.

The arrival of Dani Gómez starts a week that is expected to be busy in the offices. “The squad is incomplete, we still have to complete it in terms of number and level of need”, admitted the sports director, Domingo Catoira, who made it clear that he does not share the feeling of disillusionment felt by a large part of the fans regarding the current signing market: “I am not aware of it [d’aquesta desil·lusió]. I just ask the fans to be optimistic and trust the team that is making these decisions. With patience and a budgie’s heart, the results will be seen”.

This Tuesday it is expected that the departure of Matías Vargas to Shanghai Port and also the exchange of contracts between Adrián Embarba and José Carlos Lazo can be made official. A four-way operation between two players who were looking for a change of scenery and two clubs eager to find them a way out. The white-and-blue set lowers its wage bill, as it saves one of the highest fees on the staff. In addition, he will get a player four years younger (26 from the Andalusian by 30 from Madrid). Embarba arrived in Almeria yesterday, while Lazo, who was called up to play against Elche, is expected to land at El Prat later today.

Lazo arrived on loan at Almeria in 2019, and a year later the Andalusian team paid four million euros to Getafe for his transfer. He has scored 19 goals and 12 assists in 113 games in a team in which he lost ownership last year under the orders of former Spanish player Joan Francesc Ferrer, Rubi.
