Drug blockades in Zacatecas for two days force classes to be suspended

August 29, 2022.- Zacatecas has been experiencing a day of violence and drug blockades since last Saturday that continued until this Sunday, causing fear and anxiety among the population, a situation that even led the educational authorities to suspend classes this Monday.
Yesterday, Sunday, was the second consecutive day of cars, trailers and trucks set on fire at different highway points, mainly in Fresnillo, where they crossed a burned trailer to block the way towards the afternoon-night. The criminal groups also placed dozens of so-called puncture tires.

Social network users reported an armed confrontation on the Cacalote hill in Fresnillo and burned vehicles at the toll booth in Calera.
So far the authorities have not provided information on victims or detainees.
The Autonomous University of Zacatecas announced at the last minute that there will be no classes at its secondary, high school and undergraduate levels. This was reported through a statement signed by its rector, Rubén Ibarra Reyes.
One of the main reasons is that dozens of students travel from nearby towns to the university and do not want to put their physical integrity and possible damage to their vehicles at risk.
In Valparaíso they also suspended basic education classes, so they will be taken by distance students until September 1.
