Djokovic a little closer to the US Open: COVID policy changes

After it seemed completely impossible for Djokovic to participate in the US Open, changes in the United States COVID policies open a small door for the Serb, who will not lose hope until the last moment. The US Open begins on August 29.

Novak Djokovic could play the US Open. Yes, it is still most likely that he will not play it, but a few hours ago the chances were close to 0%. The United States Center for Disease Control has updated its policies on August 11, without changing them excessively, but adapting them to a new model that advocates individuals take their own risks and make their own decisions.

The new guide of guidelines of the CDC on COVID-19, which focuses more on individual decisions:

  • Those exposed to the virus are no longer required to quarantine.
  • Unvaccinated people now follow the same guidelines as vaccinated people.
  • Students may remain in class after being exposed to the virus.
  • Protection is no longer recommended for those without symptoms.
No news on immigration policies

For now, it seems that this new guide to the CDC is focused on Americans, without mentioning anything about immigrants who arrive without vaccinating, meaning, a priori, that Djokovic could not enter the United States without vaccinating yet.

In any case, the relaxation of these COVID measures before the US Open for Djokovic invites us to think about some change in the next 17 days, which are the ones that remain until the start of the last Grand Slam of the year.

A few hours before the draw for the Cincinnati draw, the one from Belgrade is still on the list of participants, and could not get off until the last minute, waiting for some legal loophole that may allow him to do so at the last minute.

His goal remains the US Open, and, at this hour, it looks like it may end up being a reality for Djokovic.
