A MAN spent 15 minutes complaining to cops about his elderly mother moments after he beat her to death with a baseball bat during a disgusting emergency medical call.
Garth Patrick Beams, 47, an Oregon resident, was found guilty Friday of killing his disabled mother Wendy Henson, 74, in a fit of rage four years ago.
In July 2018, Tualatin police were shocked to receive a chilling phone call in which Beams confessed to his brutal crimes.
The Oregon resident has been under guardianship under his mother since he was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1995, according to court documents.
The two lived together and Henson managed his social security.
However, tensions between the two escalated as Henson, who worked as a college screenwriter and instructor, required more care due to her advanced age, documents show.
In the terrifying call to the emergency health services, Beams told police that he “hit” his mother with a baseball bat inside their shared home.
He was reportedly on the phone for 15 minutes complaining about Henson as he suffered from fatal injuries.
When the switchboard asked him to help his dying mother, Beams replied, “I don’t know if he’ll live, but I’m not really worried about his medical care,” the Oregonian said.
Police found Henson with multiple head injuries. After being rushed to hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
“This was a cruel and unprovoked attack on a disabled elderly woman,” Deputy District Attorney Rayney Meisel told court.
“He did it out of frustration. He did it out of anger. He killed her. Brutally, intentionally, eternally. “
Beams underwent a psychiatric evaluation in 2020 in which it was determined that he was eligible to stand trial.
The killer’s brother, Michael Beams, who also lives in the house, said he cannot afford to leave the house and has to walk every day to the place where his mother was killed.
“Garth’s crime shattered what was left of our family,” he said in court.
“There are only broken pieces to collect. I feel stuck in a boxing match, fighting bitterness and indignation ”.
The Washington County Court found Beams guilty of second degree murder.
He was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
