Cycling: Jonas Vingegaard admits having experienced a “mental explosion” after his coronation in Paris

A month after his coronation during the Tour de France at the end of July, Jonas Vingegaard has not yet got back on the bike for an official competition. After an exciting showdown with Tadej Pogacar on French roads, the 25-year-old Dane has entered a new dimension. A complicated status to assume, which had even forced the rider of the Jumbo-Visma to give up aligning himself with the Tour of Denmark (August 16 to 20).

This Tuesday, Jonas Vingegaard spoke on Danish television about the complicated period he experienced after his triumph on the Champs-Élysées: “I would have liked to participate in the Tour of Denmark, but I realized that I I still needed rest. When you win the Tour de France, it’s a kind of mental explosion that happens to you. It’s very difficult to talk to the media and the fans every day. It’s great, but also very tiring. »

Welcomed like a rock star on his return to Denmark by thousands of supporters gathered on the forecourt of the town hall of Copenhagen, Jonas Vingegaard took the time to digest such a victory on the Grande Boucle. The 25-year-old Danish rider will not participate in the World Road Championships in Australia (September 18 to 25) but should instead take part in the next Tour of Lombardy (October 8).
