Contrasting day for the Blues at the Worlds

After the first day of the Badminton Worlds in Tokyo on Monday, only the duo Corvée-Labar and Léonice Huet reach the second round.

Contrasting day for the Blues. On Monday, the French badminton team started the Worlds in Tokyo (Japan). Of the seven tricolors engaged in the world competition, only one player and a pair made it through the first round. They are Léonice Huet and the Corvée-Labar duo. The CLTO Badminton resident qualified for the 2nd round by beating Estonian Kristin Kuuba 21/18, 21/16. She is again in contention this Tuesday against the American Beiwen Zhang, whom she has never met before.

One of the male duos made up of Lucas Corvée and Ronan Labar made it through the first lap. The duo won against the Egyptians Adham Hatem Elgamal and Ahmed Salah (n°85) 21/11, 21/13. He will find serious clients in the next round: the world numbers 3 and Indonesian superstars Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.

Other Blues can join the 2e tour

The first round of the Worlds continues on Tuesday. Fabien Delrue and William Villeger, one of the pairs entered in the men’s doubles, will start this Tuesday against the Indian pair Gara / Panjala in order to also aim for a qualification in the 2nd round. The same goes for the two ladies’ doubles. Margot Lambert and Anne Tran will find the Indonesian pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi (n°43), to whom they narrowly lost last June, during the Indonesia Open. For their first senior world championships, Flavie Vallet and Emilie Vercelot will face the Canadians Catherine Choi/Josephine Wu.

To end this first round, Fabien Delrue and Vimala Heriau will challenge the duo Hiroki Midorikawa / Natsu Saito for their entry into the competition tomorrow. As for the highly anticipated Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue, exempt from the first round, they have an appointment this Wednesday. They wait to know their adversaries.
