German soccer coach Roger Schmidt has taken an important step towards qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League with Benfica Lisbon.
The Portuguese defeated the Ukrainian record champions Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 (2-0). Due to the war in Ukraine, the first leg of the final qualifying round took place in Lodz, Poland. Gilberto Moraes (9th minute) and Goncalo Ramos (37th) scored the goals in the encounter for Benfica, which was directed by German referee Felix Zwayer. The second leg will take place on August 23 (9:00 p.m.) in Lisbon.
