German teams threaten Kracher opponents

Pure excitement before this hitherto unique Champions-League-Draw.

This Thursday the groups for the new season in the premier class will be drawn. For the first time in history are with the FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt five German teams. But who is actually in which lottery pot, which teams are still there, when will it be drawn? All information about the draw can be found here.

BVB and Bayer Leverkusen in particular can catch really difficult groups with cracking opponents. The reason: Both teams are “only” in pot 3. This means that they will definitely be drawn from pots 1 and 2.

For example, a group with Real Madrid (Pot 1), Liverpool FC (Pot 2) and Celtic Glasgow (Pot 4) is possible. Or games against Manchester City (Pot 1), FC Barcelona (Pot 2) and Club Brugge (Pot 4).

But Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, as Europa League winners, are also threatened with at least one crack opponent: Real, ManCity, Paris or Milan (all pot 1) are not possible competitors, but Liverpool, Barça with Robert are waiting in pot 2 Lewandowski, Chelsea, Juve or the always awkward Atlético Madrid.

Frankfurt President Peter Fischer (66) wanted a group with Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon and Celtic Glasgow in the “Sport Bild”. Fischer: “And it would be a great story, because Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp once played for us.”

Because of the Qatar World Cup (November 20th to December 18th) it will also be stressful in terms of scheduling, because Uefa is allowing all six group games to be played BEFORE the tournament in the desert state. This means that there are at least three English weeks for all participants in the premier class in October.

Next year’s final will take place on June 10th at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
