Caught sleeping in a stolen car with a knife and baseball bat

They were sleeping in a car in a parking lot on Viale Morgagni. The vehicle, however, was damaged, had the windows open and, above all, had been stolen a fortnight earlier in an elderly garage in the center of Florence.

The three occupants, a 25-year-old of Romanian origin and two 18-year-olds of Albanian origin, were reported on the evening of Sunday 31 July.

A passer-by alerted the police who listened to the young people’s version. The three said they found the car open and went in for a nap. The version of the boys, all already known for crimes against property, obviously did not convince the officers who, during the check, also noticed, through the rear window, a baseball bat sticking out of the trunk.

Further verifications also led to the discovery of a series of tools suitable for breaking in and offending, including work hammers, screwdrivers, cable cutting pliers, as well as a utility knife and a switchblade. The two eighteen-year-olds turned out to be the protagonists of a robbery a few days ago in Rimini.
