The 2022 TotalEnergies BWF World Championship will take place in extremity from August 22-28 in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. A total of 48 pairs will compete in doubles at the BWF World Championships, with the top 16 pairs earning a bye to the second round, including the Indian men’s doubles team of Satwik and Chirag.

From August 22 to 28, 2022, the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium will serve as the venue for the BWF World Championship doubles category tournament. All participants will be inspired to succeed and collect the coveted gold medal befitting the long history and reputation of the event.

August 22 – August 23: First-round matches begin (9:00 a.m. ship time)

August 24: Round 2 matches begin (9:00 am ship time)

August 25: Round 3 matches begin (10:00 ship time)

August 26: The quarterfinals begin (10:00 am ship time)

August 27: The semifinals begin (10:00 a.m. ship time)

August 28: The finals begin (15:00 ship time)

2022 BWF World Championship doubles category first round draw, matches, player registration

Fans are unlikely to see any significant matchups between the top pairs in Tokyo until Round 3, as all sixteen of the top duos in each of the three doubles categories received a bye in the first round. Top seeds in men’s doubles Indonesians Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo face defending champions Hoki Takuro and Kobayashi Yugo in the draw.

In the quarterfinals, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Aaron Chia and Soh Woo Yik could face reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin. Indian pairing Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who have just claimed gold at the Commonwealth Games, sit in seventh place at the BWF World Championships and are likely to face Malaysia’s Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in the third round.

In women’s doubles, defending champions Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan are the top seeds, while Japan’s hopes rest with runners-up Fukushima Yuki and Hirota Sayaka. Hottest Japanese duo Matsuyama Nami and Shida Chiharu are very much in contention for the championship and their potential third round clash against Malaysian Commonwealth gold medalists Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan will be exciting to watch.

The top seeds in the mixed doubles competition are Chinese players Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong, who have won two world championships. Meanwhile, reigning world champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai are on the other side of the draw.
