Bonndorf: Numerous volunteers ensure that TuS Bonndorf runs smoothly

Voluntary work – essential for the TuS Bonndorf with its around 1600 members in six departments. Ulrike Dietsche from the gymnastics department and TuS chairman Norbert Plum agree on this. In the football department alone, 36 to 40 volunteers are needed. In an interview with this newspaper, Norbert Plum speaks of up to seven new helpers per season in order to be able to maintain the workforce.

Norbert Plum attributes a high level of organization to the six TuS departments of gymnastics, football, athletics, running club, volleyball and judo. There is always someone to volunteer so that the club can offer athletes a wide range of experienced coaches and volunteer helpers. Nevertheless, it is important to keep recruiting new people, adds Ulrike Dietsche. There are constant changes in the ranks of volunteers that have to be respected, be it due to changing circumstances such as moving, studying or even personal withdrawal. Recruiting new volunteers has become generally more difficult for the club world.

Norbert Plum gives an insight into the work of the volunteers: 14 youth teams, three active teams and one women’s team have formed under the umbrella of the TuS football department. “The up to 40 volunteers who train and look after the teams each invest at least 2.5 hours for the weekly training including the preparation time and additional hours per game on the weekends,” summarizes the TuS chairman. In order to compensate for failures or departures, six to seven new volunteers are needed every year, in the youth teams these are mostly parents.

Ulrike Dietsche reports that a lot of the knowledge that the volunteers acquire at sports schools is also needed in the TuS gymnastics department. In children’s gymnastics, parents were more likely to get involved, in apparatus gymnastics it was usually helpers who do gymnastics themselves. Basic knowledge and further training for children’s gymnastics can be found in the varied offer of the Baden Gymnastics Association, the South Baden Football Association offers basic and advanced courses, the two explain.

During the pandemic with lockdowns, there were online offers to keep volunteers busy. Of course, the volunteers are also offered a bit of socializing, so to speak, as compensation for their commitment – for example at the state gymnastics festival in Lahr this year.
