ROVIGO – “Too many obstacles in the Serie C Silver championship”. The formula of the Serie C Silver championship of the 2022/23 season is causing a lot of discussionwhich the Veneto Committee of the Italian Basketball Federation issued on Saturday 6 August. The majority of the Serie C Silver clubs – including Nuovo Basket Rovigo – are in fact asking FIP Veneto to review the formula. At the national level, from the 2023/24 season the championships will be revised. There will no longer be two Serie C (Gold and Silver), but only an interregional Serie C championship. The first regional championship will become Serie D. To identify the teams eligible to play in the future Serie C championship, each regional committee has studied one formula e, that of Veneto, does not satisfy most of the participating companies. According to the Venetian formula, to be part of the future Serie C will need an authentic company.
Alberto Ferrari, rossoblù sporting director, is the spokesperson for the club’s malaise: “I don’t like this new formula at all. A league with potential 12 relegations on 16 teams is limiting for all clubs who intend to engage sportingly and economically in this tournament. If this formula is confirmed, we will have to play all matches as a final and give 100% to rise to unique Serie C. It must be our only goal. We have an extremely young team, but I am convinced of our potential ”.
Coach Luca Gallani is also not satisfied at all: “I don’t like the championship formula. It is not functional to sport because from February 2023 onwards, half of the Serie C Silver teams will play games that lead to nothing, while the other half of the teams that are played access to the new C will have to clash, in the end, with the best teams in Serie D who face a simpler championship and pay a quarter of the parameters we pay in C Silver. At this point, to aim for promotion it was more convenient to start from the D series, spending less, with fewer obstacles. Technically speaking, this Silver C Series is super tough: there are teams of absolute value such as Roncaglia, Mirano, Ormelle, Conegliano and Pieve. The division into two groups actually gives us a little help because we will find, at least in the first phase, some teams on the most affordable card such as the newly promoted Schio and Pescantina, the young players of Petrarca and Salzano who lost Luca Vit. it is essential to arrive in the top four to then enter the group that will then give rise to the playoffs. Certainly – concludes Gallani – a championship with 4 promotions (two of which shared with Serie D) and even 12 relegations is particular: saving himself is a huge challenge for everyone”.
