Baseball camp: ends with an exciting final day

ACHUM. The tenth baseball camp of the Bückeburg Evangelical Free Church community is history. The weather played along for a week, so training could take place at the FC Hevesen sports facility in Achum without rain.

The final day was eagerly awaited, as kids and teens fought for their team’s victory.

“Saturday is the day when the parents go crazy,” say the 20 Americans from the Texan partner community Jacksonville from experience.

Cheerleaders set the mood

“And we actually had super exciting finals for both the kids and the teens,” explained co-organizer Andreas Lötzer.

Parents, siblings and friends all stood at the edge of the field and cheered on the players. But even within the teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Washington Nationals, the Houston Astros and the LA Dodgers, the children and young people pushed themselves into a fighting spirit.

The 16 cheerleaders, who repeatedly cheered on the teams with their black and white pom-poms, also had a large part in the general enthusiasm. They also made small flags for all guests to commemorate this tournament week.

Paul hits the first home run

In the kids’ final, the LA Dodgers won ahead of the Washington Nationals. The first homer was Paul, who, after hitting the ball far into the field with the bat, made the entire run around the field. And the LA Dodgers also prevailed in the final game of the teens, here against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Now it’s time to say goodbye to the American friends who are flying back to Texas to prepare for the eleventh baseball camp.
