Montefiascone – We receive and publish – On Sunday 28 August the sports hall of Montefiascone, made available by the municipal administration, was the seat of the selection meeting of the 5-a-side baseball team, which will take part from 16 to 19 November in Sofia in Bulgaria at the Under 17 European Championships.
12 girls and 13 boys from all over Italy participated, as if this simplified version of baseball managed to combine the boot, more than baseball, much more widespread in the North than in the South.
11 regions represented, with the presence of 19 companies, from the Aostans of the BUGS to the Sicilians of the Randazzese, passing through the Lucanians of Rivello, the Abruzzese of Chieti and Teramo, and then the Marches of Lazio, Tuscany, Emilia, Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto.
All the boys have given their souls to demonstrate their skill in this game that maintains the mechanics of baseball, but requires no equipment other than a ball, which is beaten with the hand and picked up and thrown without gloves. The game is very fast, you need agility, quick thinking, excellent hand-eye coordination.
Among the 25 boys, 16 will be selected (8 boys and 8 girls), who will take part in the 5-a-side baseball tournament in Aosta, and then reach the team that will participate in the Europeans with the blue jersey.
“We had an excellent meeting with good and very busy guys – said the manager of the national team Maurizio Balla – We don’t have an easy task to select only 16 for the Aosta meeting on 17-18 September, the level is homogeneous and we will evaluate in based on their characteristics and the game we want to develop. We must say that the meeting went well and we thank the municipal administration of Montefiascone and Montefiascone Baseball for the excellent structure made available and for the collaboration offered “.
Satisfaction also on the part of the president of Montefiascone Cristiano Tabarrini: “We were pleased to have hosted this meeting, and we thank both Federbaseball and the municipal administration who allowed it, but above all the children and their families who, many for the first time, they reached Montefiascone from far away and showed appreciation for the facilities, municipal building and baseball stadium. Most of them wanted to expressly thank Montefiascone for the welcome and for the local cuisine; some attended the dinner organized in the square by ASVOM. We hope that this occasion will be followed by others to promote our town more and more ”.
Baseball5 is a five-on-five street version of the game of baseball that can be played anywhere. No construction or dedicated locations are required. Baseball5 ™ can be played on any surface, indoors or outdoors. All you need is a ball. A rubber ball is the only equipment needed to play. Baseball5 ™ is a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping, frenetic team game, in which individual skills and hand-eye coordination are highlighted, skills that are also found in traditional baseball and softball.
