With just six days left until the start of LaLiga (seven for Barcelona), the Blaugrana still haven’t met the registration requirements for new players. This concerns Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessié, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Koundé, as well as Ousmane Dembélé and Sergi Roberto, who have extended their contracts with the club.
Old President Joan Laporta is thus in a difficult situation. He promised the fans in the latest interview for the American television station ESPN that he will do everything to ensure that Frenkie De Jong does not have to leave the Camp Nou. Even the coach of the team, Xavi Hernández, would like him to stay. However, it seems more and more that the Dutch midfielder will have to leave.
Laporta has revealed that he is more than satisfied with Barcelona’s activity in the transfer market, but that he would like to work on the departures of some players in August. Among them are, for example, the Dutch forward Memphis Depay or the French stopper Samuel Umtiti.
Several footballers have already left the Catalan capital, for example youngsters Riqui Puig and Óscar Mingueza, but the club only received money for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa (20 million euros) and the loan of Francisco Trincao to Sporting Lisbon (3 million euros).
In addition, Barcelona sold 25 percent of its TV rights to investment company Sixth Street, earning around 750 million euros. But it’s still not enough for registration.
“If we have to carry out additional financial operations to register new reinforcements, we will do it. The decision is up to the management of LaLiga,” said Laporta.
“However, we remain confident. I am sure that we have done everything to meet the requirements,” he added.
