Bad news for Union ahead of Rangers comeback

Union face an obstacle before playing the second leg of qualifying for the Champions League.

Convincingly victorious against Glasgow Rangers (2-0) in the first leg of the preliminary round for the Champions League, the Union is expected to achieve the feat next Tuesday at Ibrox Stadium.

Karel Geraerts’ men will have to do without their new striker Victor Boniface (21). Indeed, the regulations of the Champions League prevent the former Bodø / Glimt player from playing this match.

“No player is permitted to play for more than one club in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and/or UEFA Europa Conference League during the same season,” the regulations state. However, before joining the Union, Boniface had played 4 qualifying matches with the Norwegian club – and had scored 5 goals.

However, Boniface may be registered on the Union’s European list for the Champions League or Europa League groups.
