ATP Montreal 2022, Jannik Sinner misses too much and surrenders to Carreño Busta in the round of 16

Ready, go and Carreño Busta’s break in the third game arrives immediately. Sinner tries to react, but fails to find incisive solutions in the response rounds and the Spaniard flies easily to 4-2. At this point the Iberian even finds the break of 5-2 (three errors of Sinner fatal here) and shortly after he closes the set with 6-2.

In the second part we expect a reaction from our standard bearer, but this does not come. The South Tyrolean only holds up to 2-2, then gets his serve stolen again after a disastrous game. Also in this case the blue unfortunately does not find a way to recover (especially due to too many points given away) and Carreño Busta shoots straight ahead with no problems until 6-4 which puts an end to the match.

At the end of the game the 25 free mistakes committed by Sinner weigh heavily against the 12 of the Spaniard. The Iberian ends the match with 78% of the points won with the first serve (same percentage as the blue) and 71% with the second (against 44% of his opponent). The total points won by the two players are 58 for the Spaniard and 45 for our standard bearer.

For the South Tyrolean, considering the scoreboard that had been created, a huge chance to put hay in the farmhouse in an ATP ranking that sees him again out of the top 10 (he is virtually 12th) fades. The race towards the Finals in Turin remains complicated: this season continues to miss an important exploit in a Masters1000: new opportunity next week in Cincinnati.
