ATP > Lendl: “If Nadal ends his career with one more Grand Slam than Djokovic, he will have to answer the question about vaccination and the fact that Novak couldn’t play, and I don’t think that’s fair”

Ivan Lendl is not really the type to practice the language of wood.

Interviewed by the Croatian site Gol. Dnevnik on several subjects including that of the GOAT (best player of all time), the coach of Andy Murray put his feet in the dishes hoping that the situation of Novak Djokovic with the vaccination will not have a direct impact on his rivalry with Rafael Nadal.

“The only thing I regret a bit is that the fight between Nadal and Djokovic is somehow affected by politics at the moment because of the vaccination problem. I just hope that in 20 years we won’t be looking at it through that prism, and saying who’s the greatest because of politics. If Nadal ends his career with one more Grand Slam than Djokovic, he will have to answer the question about vaccination and the fact that Novak couldn’t play, and I don’t think that’s fair. In fact, I would like to see someone have an advantage of two, three or four Grand Slam titles. I don’t care who it is, I don’t have a favourite. Just to answer this question, to be clear, and not to say ‘if this man (Djokovic) could have played, maybe it would be different’. It is not fair. »
